Despite a tough 2-1 loss against Catholic on Wednesday, the Susquehanna Field Hockey team clinched a first-round bye in the Landmark Conference playoffs.

The team will host the lowest-seeded team remaining on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at Sassafras Fields Complex.

“SUFH is excited to be back in the Landmark Conference Playoffs this season. We are thrilled to have earned the opportunity to host as the number one seed,” said head coach Allison Fordyce. “We know that we have to best the best version of ourselves as we go into playoff season.”

The River Hawks went 13-5 on the year, with an especially impressive 8-1 record in the Landmark Conference. There were many facets of their game that allowed them to have a great regular season., T

Derrick only allowed 1.11 goals per game, which was third in the Landmark Conference. Overall, the River Hawks were only second to Scranton in goals against average. They will absolutely look to rely on their solid defense and goaltending come playoff time.

Susquehanna averaged 2.44 goals per game, which was second in the Landmark Conference. Kari Schmidt led the team in goals with seven in eighteen games played. Schmidt also had seven assists, giving her twenty-one points on the year. Katie Bucher was the team’s second-highest scorer with five.

Now, all eyes are on this weekend’s first round matchups as the River Hawks wait to see who moves on and must travel to Selinsgrove to battle on Nov. 1.

“We believe that pressure is a privilege, and we look forward to rising up to meet the challenge that lies ahead,” said Fordyce. “Our plan is to attack our preparation being mentally locked in and ready to focus on the details of our game.”

With full hearts and a Landmark Conference championship on their minds, the River Hawks are ready to take on whoever comes their way.
