After facing several postponed and cancelled matches due to weather, the Susquehanna women’s tennis team had its first match of the season at home against the Penn College Wildcats on Sept. 27.
The opposing team overcame the River Hawks after a grueling two and a half hour long match. The Hawks were defeated with an ending score of 3-6.In the doubles portion, third doubles players Katherine Yoder and Jane Weaver gave SU its first win of the day by defeating their Wildcat opponents with a score of 8-2. First doubles players Alexa Wanamaker and Julie Bramley fought their way into a tiebreaker set but fell with a score of 8-7.
The River Hawks played hard in the singles portion with two total wins. First singles player Julie Bramley easily defeated her opponent with a score of 6-1, 6-2. Sixth singles player Serah Yusuf took the final win for SU with a score of 6-0, 6-4.
“I feel pretty good, because as a freshman playing a senior, I did not lose that badly. I am okay with that as a loss,” said first-year Katie Yoder. Yoder competed as fifth singles and took a 6-4, 6-3 loss.
The River Hawks look forward to their next match this weekend away at Misericorida. They will hit the courts on Sunday at 1 p.m.
