The Susquehanna field hockey team fell to York College, 4-1, on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at Sassafras Fields Complex.
The River Hawks were on the defensive from the opening whistle. York did an exceptional job of keeping the pressure on Susquehanna’s defenders, resulting in multiple turnovers for the River Hawks.
York gained an early lead just after the twenty-minute mark thanks to senior Katie Martino. She then scored another off a penalty corner to put her team up 2-0.
While SU was down two points, the deficit could’ve been much more. Susquehanna goalie Ashley Derrick was exceptional all game, recording nine total saves.
The River Hawks went into the halftime break down 2-0, while not recording a shot themselves.
Susquehanna held York to zero shots in the third quarter, and the game was much more back-and-forth.
However, York’s Hannah Huffman scored their third goal to seemingly put the game out of reach.
Susquehanna was able to put one in the back of the net to avoid the shut out. The game ended with a score of 4-1 York.
The River Hawks will play at home next Tuesday, Oct. 10 against Christopher Newport University.
