The Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides Yoga classes twice a week for Susquehanna students looking to relax and de-stress.
Every Monday at 5 p.m. and Wednesday at 4:15 p.m., hour-long yoga classes are provided in the racquetball rooms in the Garrett Sports Complex. The classes are $10 per semester, and anyone is welcome to come to as many classes as they would like. Classes are taught by a certified yoga instructor, Beatriz Benedit, who is the owner of the Lewisburg Yoga Studio.
“It’s a type of outreach that students have responded really well to,” says Emma Piel, a student employee of CAPS. “We’ve had yoga for a while now. I’m a senior now and we’ve had it since my freshman year, but over time students have started to find out more about it and it’s grown across campus.” CAPS has many different outreach projects that focus on mental health in Susquehanna students, yoga classes being one of the more successful projects.
Each class, instructor Beatriz Benedit teaches beginner level yoga which helps to strengthen and balance the body and mind. She includes topics of how to be mindful and relax your body and mind through deep breathing, as well as teaching about the law of attraction which she explains as the energy and thoughts you put out into the world is what get brought back to you. She ends each class with meditation to help with relaxation and grounding.
