HOUSTON — The Houston Astros defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 4-1 on Saturday in game six to win the World Series.
Yordan Alvarez hit a crucial three-run home run off Jose Alvarado to give the Astros the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning in game six of the World Series.
The Astros’ bullpen would shut down the Phillies’ offense for the rest of the game and Kyle Tucker would secure the final out in foul territory for the Astros.
Jeremy Pena won World Series MVP after hitting .345 with four home runs and eight RBIs.
Pena became the first rookie position player ever to win the award.
Dusty Baker won his first managerial championship after winning the World Series in 1981 during his playing career with the Dodgers.
Baker also became the oldest manager ever to win the World Series at 73 years old.
The Astros were the second-best team in the MLB in the regular season with a 106-56 record and an undefeated record in the postseason leading up to the World Series.
The Phillies were one of the more underrated teams entering the playoffs with an 87-75 record and an impressive 7-2 run in the postseason against the Cardinals, Braves, and Padres.
JT Realmuto hit a home run to take the lead 6-5 in the top of the tenth inning to help lead the Phillies to victory in game one in Houston.
Framber Valdez silenced the Phillies’ bats in Houston as he pitched 6.1 innings with nine strikeouts and three walks en route to a 5-2 Astros win in game two.
Bryce Harper hit the first of five Phillies home runs in the bottom of the first inning as the Phillies won the first game in Philadelphia, 7-0, in game three.
Christian Javier pitched six no-hit innings for the Astros and then three relievers pitched combined to finish the no-hitter for the Astros against the Phillies resulting in a 5-0 win in game four in Philadelphia.
The Astros’ no-hitter is the second ever in the World Series.
The only solo no-hitter in the World Series was Don Larsen who did it for the Yankees in game five of the 1956 World Series against the Dodgers.
Justin Verlander finally got the first win of his career in the World Series in game five of the World Series as the Astros won a nail-biter 3-2 in Philadelphia.
Verlander’s record in the World Series is now 1-6 with a 5.63 ERA.
