SU Republicans Club Stirs Concerns With Documentary

At their Monday Sept. 19 meeting, Susquehanna University College Republicans showed the Daily Wire documentary “What is a Woman?”

Prior to the meeting, the club issued an email reminder to its mailing list detailing its plans to watch the film. Following this email, various students issued reports to the Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) claiming that the film was offensive towards transgender and gender nonconforming individuals.

Amy Davis, Assistant Director of Inclusion and Diversity, stated that although she has not watched the film, students who have seen the entire movie did bring concerns up to her. After receiving these complaints, Davis did her own research and gathered a group of her colleagues together to investigate the matter.

“What came out of that meeting was a pretty clear understanding that we could not censor the material shown in the meeting,” explains Davis.

However, Davis did discover that she was able to utilize university resources to hold an event presenting the opposing viewpoints. Therefore, the CDI held an All Gender and No Gender Affirming Circle on Tuesday Sept. 20, which focused on discussion and affirmation for transgender and nonbinary individuals.

The president of Susquehanna University College Republicans declined to meet in person for further discussion.

As per the sga guidelines all their meetings are public why did no one in quill just show up? Very biased reporting here I would have liked to see the other viewpoint.
