The Susquehanna baseball team opens their season on Friday, February 18 against Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia.

The River Hawks are 1-4 against CNU since 2016, their lone win coming in 2017. They narrowly lost their last contest against the Captains by a score of 8-7. Come February 18, Susquehanna will be eager to get that win back and start the season off on a positive note.

This game against Christopher Newport University doubles as both the River Hawk’s season opener as well as the start of a 12-game road trip where the team will travel as far as Virginia, North Carolina and even Texas.

They finally will return to Selinsgrove for their home-opener on March 16 against Penn State Harrisburg, whom Susquehanna is 0-3 against in their last three matchups.

Overall, the team is looking to bounce back this year after posting an 11-17 record last season, (9-12 in conference).

Susquehanna’s last few seasons have been somewhat inconsistent and this year they are hoping to stabilize their program and revert to their winning ways, just as they were in both 2014 and 2016 when they won the Landmark Conference title.

Susquehanna will have to rely on their upperclassmen to lead the way for the 16 incoming freshmen that are eager to do their part in contributing to a successful 2022 season.

Adam Schreck is one of those players that will be looked at to lead the River Hawks this upcoming season. Last year, he hit .247 with a .700 OPS and 20 RBIs in 27 games. Schreck’s ability to produce offensively is paramount to Susquehanna’s success this season.

Along with Schreck, the offense will look to second-year infielder, Kris Morrow, to build on his successful rookie season where he hit .319 with an .833 OPS. Morrow also reached base safely at a very impressive 43 percent of the time last season.
