Jellyfish plants in Degenstein Campus Center

On Sept. 15, the Student Activities Committee held an event where students could make their own Jellyfish plant. The event ran from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. The SAC held a similar event last semester where anyone who attended was able to make bamboo plants.

These Jellyfish plants are hanging plants and are a great addition to anyone’s dorm. On arrival, there was a short but quickly moving line, which gave everyone time to have fun with their friends, plan what colors they would pick, and decide where they would hang their plant.

Students were able to choose the color of their shell and then were given their handmade jellyfish plant. SAC had a table set up with markers for anyone who wanted to further decorate their plant.

The SAC plans small events such as the Jellyfish Plants and the Bamboo Plants last semester because they think it gives students a happiness boost, a sense of enjoyment for free, as well as a mid-week break. The bamboo plant event, which is very similar to the Jellyfish plant event, has been done for many years and its success is the reason this event was held. College students love these dorm friendly plants because they are easy to take care of and give a sense of responsibility.

Event Director Sean Young said the SAC plans to hold craft or plant related events every semester. They have held plant pot painting, succulent giveaways, and more events of the kind in past semesters. These events are always successful because of the self-esteem and confidence boost caring for plants can give students.

They also believe that having plants in students’ dorm rooms can provide them with a connection to nature that many people often lack. The SAC holds a plant related event every semester; usually they do the bamboo plants one semester and something different the next.

The SAC has an event planned for every week so make sure to check in and attend any events that interest you. On October 11, they have a Magician coming to campus. Later in the semester they will be holding “Stuff-A-Plush, fall cookie decorating, and gingerbread decorating.”

A message from the SAC, “If any of this sounds fun, please attend these events, and consider applying to be a part of the committee.”
