Hope Woolway is a senior, early child education major, who plays left-side defense on the Susquehanna field hockey team. She is from Lewisburg, Pa.
What made you start playing field hockey?
“My twin sister started playing field hockey.”
Who is your favorite professional field hockey player?
“I don’t have a favorite field hockey player, but I look up to the US national women’s soccer team for speaking out on the injustices of pay due to gender and using their platform to make people aware of it.”
What drew you to the field hockey team here at Susquehanna?
“When I came to visit, I could tell that the team was like a big family who always had each other’s backs on and off the field.”
What’s been some of your favorite memories here with the team?
“One of my favorite memories was when we won the landmark conference at home.”
What has been a student-athlete for the past four years taught you?
“It has taught me to persevere through challenges on the field or in the classroom.”
Who or what is your biggest inspiration when it comes to field hockey?
“My biggest inspiration would be all the coaches I’ve had past to present, who have coached me to be better on the field and as a person.”
What is your advice to the first-year field hockey players?
“Trust the process! And leave everything you have out on the field in practice or a game because you will never know when it could be ripped away from you.”
If you could relive any game, which one would it be and why?
“It would be the Scranton game where we won, the fans cheering us on, and the competition on the field. Both teams were at their peak in the season which meant the best hockey.”
What are you going to miss the most?
“I’m going to miss everything, from the bus rides to the 6am lifts. Just being with the team, doing something we all love and forgetting all the other outside stresses while on the field.”
