Susquehanna’s library staff is refusing to let new health regulations prevent incoming students from learning about the library’s sources by implementing a virtual open house, available now until Sept. 21.
Although the virtual open house does not allow for students to meet and talk with Blough-Weis Library staff like the annual in-person event typically does, Research Librarian Ryan Ake hopes that students are still able to become more comfortable with what the library has to offer during their time at Susquehanna.
“It’s really just an opportunity for students to really get to know what the library is about, what we’re really there to help you with, what we have that can help with academic research, different courses, things like that,” Ake said.
All students are able to access the open house through the library’s research and services website. Ake said it should take students about 20-25 minutes to complete the virtual tour.
The virtual simulation walks students through the front doors of Blough-Weis Library and guides them through all three floors with arrows and information boxes that students can click on for more details and pictures.
“We’ve also highlighted a few of the most important bits of information that you can access through our website,” Ake explained, “So we try and highlight the ways that students can find research material, how to contact librarians, how to schedule meetings with librarians, the quick and easiest way to get in contact with somebody for any type of questions.”
Everyone that completes the tour will be entered into a drawing for several prizes including Apple AirPods and a $25 gift certificate for Starbucks, Amazon and Apple. Five winners will also be able to select a title of their choice on the libraries tab, according to Ake.
