Sophomore outfielder Evan Knapp led the charge for the Susquehanna University baseball team against No.13 Kean on Sunday, March 1 in Union, NJ, as he extended his hitting streak to three-straight games, but it wasn’t enough, as the River Hawks ultimately fell short 9-2, dropping their third game of the season.

Kean found success early on, pulling ahead with a 7-0 lead during the first six innings thanks to a four-run third inning as well as a three-run fifth inning.

The River Hawks finally notched two runs in the seventh inning via an RBI double by Knapp to score junior catcher Peter Yarem, who kicked off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball.

Shortly after, Knapp came home via a sacrifice fly by senior outfielder Justin Miller. During the contest, Knapp would go three-for-four with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.

Other top performers for the River Hawks included Yarem, senior infielder Anthony Dombrowski, and sophomore infielder Adam Schreck who each went one-for-four.

The Cougars then scored a run in both the seventh and eighth innings to take home their fourth-straight victory with the final score being 9-2.

Susquehanna had a tough go during the game, collecting seven hits but leaving seven on base, as well as having four errors.

“Obviously we didn’t play well in Sunday’s game against a very good Kean team, but there were a lot of positive from the weekend,” senior pitcher Tyson Thrush. “Next week is a big week as we play five games in Florida with the final two against Scranton, which is huge.”

For their next matchup, the River Hawks will face Marietta on Monday, March 9 in Port Charlotte, Fla. at 11 a.m. On the same day and location, they will then go up against Baldwin-Wallace at 2 p.m.
