The Office of Residence life hosted an information session on the new online housing selection process Tuesday morning in Seibert Hall.
The housing process will take a new approach for next year as Residence Life will conduct all portions of housing selection online.
The presentation touched on different areas of the online registration process for the 2020-21 academic school year. Topics discussed include familiarizing students with the new housing application process, specialty housing choices and roommate selection.
Director of Residence Life Dr. Colleen Bunn presented the informational session to mostly freshman and sophomore students on Tuesday..
Bunn discussed that transitioning housing selection to an online process has been a popular idea among Susquehanna students.
“This was something that students had asked about since I arrived on campus,” Bunn said.
Making this possible has been one of her goals since beginning her time with the Residence Life in 2018. The recent addition of housing software now makes online selection possible.
“When we purchased housing software one of the things we wanted to do was to move our housing process online,” said Bunn.
The online housing registration form is already open for students and runs through Feb. 14.
Susquehanna students can sign their housing agreements, complete roommate matching questions similar to the first year application, and fill out a roommate profile to find a strong roommate match.
Even if a student has a roommate planned for the 2020-2021 academic year, the completion of the roommate matching questions can assist if these plans fall through.
The first stages of specialty housing and accommodations will also occur between now and Feb. 14.
Existing specialty housing options are set to return such as the International House, Creative Writing House, and Sustainability House.
There is also the option to create unique Student Created Communities that bring people together that have similar interests and backgrounds.
Students can also pick their preferred meal plan for next year. This eliminates having to change meal plans through Susquehanna Dining Services.
Students can choose from the current Gold, Silver, and Platinum plans. The option to change to Commuter and 18th Street meal plans can be chosen once Residence Life confirm a student’s housing arrangements for next year.
The Office of Residence Life provides a more detailed explanation of this revamped housing process on their MySU page and on their YouTube channel.
The session was the first of three aimed at informing Susquehanna students on the process of selecting housing for the 2020-2021 academic school year.
The other information sessions will be hosted by Residence Life within the next few weeks. These sessions are scheduled for Monday Feb. 3rd at Degenstein Campus Center and Thursday Feb. 14th at the Blough-Weis Library.
