The Susquehanna swim team took on Division II opponent Bloomsburg University on Oct. 26, falling to the Huskies 198-63 on the men’s side and losing 189-72 on the women’s side at the Nelson Field House Pool in Bloomsburg, Pa.

For Susquehanna, sophomore Eric Towse Jr. defeated all competitors in the 100-meter backstroke, recording the winning time of 54.34. Towse also took second in the 50-yard backstroke, completing a dominant day in the backstroke style.

Freshman Jayden Corrigan was also exceptional in the pool for Susquehanna, compiling gold and bronze medals on the day. Corrigan defeated all swimmers in the 500-meter freestyle, punching in a time of 5:01:03 to lead all swimmers by five seconds. Corrigan also took third in the 200-yard freestyle event

Senior Caitlin Kelly took the lone gold medal for Susquehanna for the women’s competition. Kelly took the win in the 500-yard freestyle event, pacing all swimmers with a time of 5:40:50. Kelly was also part of 200-yard freestyle relay team that placed second with a time of 1:46:14.

Also competing well for the women was freshman Haley Muth. In only her second competition at the collegiate level, Muth acquired two silver medal finishes in Bloomsburg. After placing second with a time of 1:10:60 in the 200-yard breaststroke, Muth came in second yet again, swimming the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 32.46.

Susquehanna competed hard against the dominant Bloomsburg on Saturday but could not keep up with the Huskies for most of the day. Bloomsburg’s highlights on the afternoon featured exceptional performances on the women’s side from sophomore Carlie Owens and freshman Courtney Hubric, both of whom won three events each.

For the men’s team, Bloomsburg spread the winning wealth, with four swimmers acquiring at least three medaling performances. Redshirt senior Kyle Dix won three events, while sophomore Colton Schnars and freshman Blake Nesbitt snagged two gold medals apiece.

After being heavily tested by Bloomsburg, Susquehanna will look ahead to the rest of their long fall schedule.

Both the men and women’s teams will be back in the water for Susquehanna on Nov. 9 to travel to Gettysburg College to take on the Bullets.
