The Susquehanna men’s soccer team successfully finished a 4-0 shutout against Landmark Conference rival Juniata at Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove, Pa. on Oct 23.
Sophomore forward Brian McKee scored two goals and had one assist which led the team to their first Landmark Conference win of the season.
Junior midfielder Dakota Dobrovich-Fago put the first goal on the scoreboard, unassisted and into the top corner of the net.
“I was really happy to get a goal and be impactful in the game,” Dobrovich-Fago said. “It’s always nice to play a part in a big win like this one.”
McKee scored his first goal of the night 29 minutes into the match as he got a head onto a crossed ball by junior defender Jacob Butzler.
“After watching an intense premier league soccer game, I felt as though my soccer IQ raised a level and I felt confident enough to cross a ball like that,” Butzler said.
Going into halftime, Susquehanna had a 3-0 lead after McKee scored his second goal of the game two yards from the goal.
In the second half, junior forward Chris Naiman scored on a 25-yard pass from McKee. Susquehanna tallied a 9-5 advantage in shots and a 5-2 margin in shots on goal.
Next, Susquehanna took on University of Scranton in a game that ended in a 1-0 loss in double overtime on Oct. 26 in Scranton, Pa.
Despite the loss, senior goalie Matt Ellingworth had a career best 11 saves.
The Royals led 8-6 in shots in the first half of the game but Ellingworth was able to make seven and, which kept the game scoreless.
During the second half, the shot margin was even at 4-4 and Ellingworth saved three more shots, which ultimately sent the match into overtime.
Scranton led in the first period of overtime with a 3-1 shot advantage, but the game remained scoreless.
Then in the second overtime period, sophomore forward Mike Cortez found the net to give Scranton the win.
The River Hawks will next take on Drew University at home at 1 p.m. on Nov. 2.
