The Susquehanna field hockey team shut out Cabrini 6-1 on Oct. 23 in Selinsgrove, Pa. as senior forward Hunter Pitman notched her second hat trick of the season.

The first goal of the game was scored by Pitman in the first quarter. Barely two minutes later, junior forward Maddie Taylor scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Kelsey Murray to extend Susquehanna’s lead to 2-0.

Pitman continued to dominate, scoring two more goals before the first half ended.

Junior Jenn Sabbak kept up the pressure, scoring the Hawks’ fifth goal three minutes into the third quarter, leading 5-0.

Susquehanna’s defense also remained strong, as senior goalie Veronica Green, freshman goalie Mackenzie Bross and sophomore goalie Ava Kristich combined for six saves during the game’s duration.

Sophomore midfielder Katie Koch sealed the deal for Susquehanna, scoring the sixth and final goal for the team while extending the lead to 6-0.

Sophomore midfielder Lauren Vanstone of the Cavaliers refused to quit, however, scoring the first goal for Cabrini with 25 seconds left in the contest to bring the final score to 6-1.

Susquehanna kept the ball rolling with a huge 3-0 victory against Landmark Conference rival Scranton on Oct. 26.

“We are on a mission to continue playing into November and will be working hard this week to achieve that goal,” Sophomore defender Annalee Smith said about the win.

Pitman was the first to score again, landing a shot in the third quarter off an assist from Murray.

Murray was next in line to score for Susquehanna, hitting the back of the cage off a pass from junior midfielder Vivian Simone.

Green had an airtight defense, saving seven shots during the competition, while the Royals saved five.

Koch scored the third and final goal of the game off an assist from Lee with only 10 minutes remaining.

“We have scored 17 goals in our last three games and have only given up three goals in 180 minutes of play,” Smith said of the team’s performance.

Next, the River Hawks will go up against Drew University at 1 p.m on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Madison, N.J.
