The Susquehanna men’s tennis team finished their fall season with a 9-0 victory over Misericordia on Oct. 5 in Selinsgrove, Pa.
This was the River Hawks’ fourth shutout win of the season, while also serving as their third- straight triumph.
The first finish for doubles ended with Misericordia forfeiting No. 3 doubles to junior Ian Reish and senior Taylor Swim.
“It was a great way to end the fall season,” Reish said.
Afterwards, freshmen Kyle Bitting and Justin Mahoney racked up their second win for this season.
The duo dropped only one game and won 8-1 in No. 2 doubles against Misericordia’s Matthew McCaffrey and Ethan Snyder.
Freshman Samuel Sidle and sophomore Ethan Cooley were also victorious with an 8-4 win in No. 1 doubles.
In singles action, the Cougars began with a forfeit in No. 6 singles competition.
The River Hawks were on re during singles, as the team lost only three games in five singles matches.
It was not all fun and games for Susquehanna, however, as sophomore player Emil Vyskocil experienced some resistance during No. 1 doubles, but landed a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Misericordia player Zach Hemond.
Cooley, along with fresh- men Joshua Sanderson, John Duncan and Conor Ryan all won 6-0 and 6-0.
Cooley was victorious over McCaffrey and Sanderson defeated Nico Touch.
Duncan defeated Snyder and Ryan saw a victory against Dan Zieno.
“We were pretty excited going into this match, and with it being the final one for the fall season we wanted to finish strong,” Swim said of the team’s performance. “We then used that energy throughout the match to pull out the win.”
With the one-sided victory over Misericordia, Susquehanna’s fall season has now come to an end. The River Hawks will have a few months of downtime before their next game, which will against King’s College at 1 p.m. on March 21 at the Garrett Tennis Courts.
