The Susquehanna women’s tennis team opened up their regular season with a 8-1 victory against Lycoming College on Sept. 18.

Lycoming had forfeited their No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches as well as the No. 3 doubles match with Susquehanna securing a win.

In doubles competition, Susquehanna sophomores Ashlynn Searer and Haley White played the No. 1 position, earning their first season victory 8-4.

“Tennis is all about having fun and challenging yourself to become a better player and one of our team goals is to improve the team record to become one of the stronger teams in our conference,” Searer said.

Lycoming freshman Aubrey Chambers won her second-straight victory at the No. 2 singles position in the non-conference match.

Susquehanna senior Amy Jennings and sophomore Anna Ream won their No. 2 doubles match 8-2.

“With a solid foundation, we would like to work towards the goal of winning more conference matches in the spring,” Jennings said.

On Sept. 21, the River Hawks lost 8-1 against a tough Lebanon Valley team who earned their second win of the season.

The Lebanon Valley Dutchmen swept all singles play, winning all six matches. The lone winners for Susquehanna was a doubles team that consisted of Searer and White, who improved their record to 2-0 by winning with an 8-3 victory.

Jennings competed at the No. 4 singles spot, giving Lebanon Valley’s junior Emily Wilczek a hard struggle before falling 6-4, 6-1.

The loss gave Susquehanna a 1-1 record on the season. The River Hawks will next take on Penn State-Harrisburg at 1p.m. on Sept. 28 in Selinsgrove, Pa.
