Susquehanna’s field hockey team suffered back-to-back losses on the road last week, falling 4-2 to Albright College on Sept. 18. and then coming up short 6-1 against Marywood on Sept. 21.
The Albright Lions were able to get a 1-0 lead in the second quarter when they received a penalty corner at the 21 minutes. Senior midfielder Kaley Donmoyer scored Albright’s second goal in the third quarter, taking the score to 2-0 and ultimately securing the victory for the Lions.
Junior midfielder Vivian Simone had the only goal of the game for the River Hawks, scoreing with only 1:30 left in the game. She was able to score off an assist from senior forward Hunter Pitman. However, Susquehanna was unable to score anymore goals away in the contest.
The River Hawks were able to force seven penalty corners but gave up eight to the Lions. Susquehanna took nine shots total with five on goal but were still outshot, as Albright had 10 shots total with eight on goal.
The top performers of the game for the River Hawks were Simone, who brought her goal total on the season to three, and Pitman, who tallied her third assist of the season.
The River Hawks were unable to bounce back from their loss against Albright, suffering another tough loss against the Marywood Pacers on Sept. 21 in Scranton Pa.
Marywood had a 1-0 lead just eight minutes into the game and scored two more goals shortly after, which gave them a quick 3-0 lead.
Going into the fourth quarter, the Pacers were up 5-0. Freshman midfielder Jadyn Brezinski was able to score her first goal of the season for the River Hawks off an assist from Pitman. Marywood then scored again on a penalty stroke leaving the final score 6-1.
“We are coming off two tough losses from Wednesday and Saturday but there is a lot of room for improvement,” Simone said. “It is not the outcome that we were hoping for but now we need to work on moving into conference play.”
Senior forward Heather Casey shared similar thoughts on the season thus far.
“We have not been seeing the results we want but we have so much heart and talent,” she said. “It is just a matter of stringing together a full 60 minutes of successful play.”
