The University Choir and Chamber Singers and the University Chorale performed a concert together on April 14 in Stretansky Concert Hall.

The University Choir and Chamber Singers were directed by Assistant Professor of Music Amy Voorhees and the University Chorale was directed by Adjunct Faculty in Music Judith White.

“Every semester Chorale has a concert where they perform the repertoire they’ve been learning and preparing,” explained junior Emma Kate Lander. “Personally, my impression of the group’s performance was that is was phenomenal, especially compared to previous years.”

“The group in general had more energy and musicianship than previous chorale groups that I’ve served with at [Susquehanna],” Lander elaborated.

Other participants also noted that the performers were able to break out of their comfort zones with this specific repertoire.

“I think that our ability to perform ‘Where the Sun Will Never Go Down’ by Joseph Jennings was phenomenal because it’s really different from our usual repertoire,” said first-year Deanna James Bunce.

“I also think that our performance of ‘Ave Maria’ was very beautiful,” Bunce continued. “Our conductor…White, made the decision to have us surround the audience during that piece and it really added another layer to the song that allowed for the audience to fully appreciate its musicality.”
