The Susquehanna men’s and women’s tennis team fell to Scranton in Landmark Conference play on Saturday, April 6. The men lost 7–2 and the women lost 9–0.

This was the men’s second straight loss in Landmark Conference matchups. Seniors Ryan Seibert and Nicholas Meale, along with freshman Emil Vyskocil, earned wins on the day.

Meale and Vyskocil took home the only doubles victory for Susquehanna on the day after an 8–2 victory in No. 2 doubles play. The duo remains undefeated on the season at 15-0.

Seibert thrived in singles play, earning a solid 6–3, 6–0 win at No. 6 singles. Seibert’s personal record improved to 11-3.

Aside from Seibert’s impressive performance, the Royals won five consecutive singles matches to take a 7–1 lead and would eventually take the match.

The team was able to rebound the next day, narrowly defeating Drew by a score of 5–4.

Once again, it was Seibert who came up huge in the biggest moment for the River Hawks. With the match score tied at 4, the senior faced off against Drew’s Bryce Kennedy in the final match of the day. The two players split the first two sets to force a decisive third set.

Kennedy held off Seibert in the first two games of the set while battling a leg injury. Halfway through the third set, the injury became too much to bear for Kennedy, as he forfeited, giving Seibert, and the River Hawks, a much-needed win.

The men’s team is now 12-3 overall, and 3-2 in Landmark Conference play.

The women’s team took a hard loss to the Royals. Scranton recorded their fourth-shutout win of the season Saturday, April 6.  With the win, Scranton improved to a record of 7-5 and are currently undefeated in conference play.

The women’s team did not have the same luck against Drew that the men’s team had, falling hard to the Rangers 9–0.

Senior Abigail Ransom was unable to win her singles match, losing in two sets.

Sophomore Hannah Maykut was able to win five of her games, but lost her singles match in two sets as well.

The Rangers were able to beat all three Susquehanna doubles teams by the same score of 8–2.

The women’s team falls to 5-7 and are 0-4 in conference play. Both teams will return to action on Saturday, April 13.
