Sophomore runner and jumper Sara Arbogast was named Landmark Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for her strong showing at the Cornell Invitational in Ithaca, N.Y. on Feb. 10.
Arbogast qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash and clocked an 8.11-second time to finish in seventh place. She currently holds the fastest time in the Landmark Conference and the second fastest time in Susquehanna history.
“While I do have many individual goals, my biggest goal of all is not just about me; it is going to be a team effort to bring home the title as Landmark Conference Champs,” Arbogast said.
The sophomore ran against 52 runners and won the 200-meter dash (26.89.). She also sits at the top of the conference in the 200-meter event and also jumped 10.83 meters to place fourth in the triple jump.
“Currently being ranked first in our conference for the 60 and 200-meter dash, as well as the triple jump, is an honor and it is an amazing feeling to see all my hard work coming together,” Arbogast said. “However, I am still surprised that I am ranked 1st for the 60 because I have only ever run it twice in my life, both being this year.”
Sophomore runner Kate Ross finished in second place out of 21 runners in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:27.28. Junior runner Alexa Pietrini clocked a 2:29.16. Sophomore runner Marissa Kleman (2:32.54) and senior runner Kirsten Hatton (2:38.75) also had strong showings in the 800-meter dash. Hatton qualified for the Landmark Conference meet at the end of the season with her finish on Sunday.
Sophomore pole vaulter Ryleigh Edmonds recorded a height of 3.06 meters and inched closer to breaking the school record.
Junior runner Emily Eck clocked a time of 11:24.09 in the 3000-meter run to qualify for the Landmark Conference meet.
For the men’s team, junior jumper Chris Petraskie finished in first place in the high jump to highlight a strong showing for the men’s track and field team at the event.
Petraskie recorded a height of 1.95 meters and also finished fourth place in the long jump with a distance of 6.45 meters. Senior Rakee Cromwell finished in sixth place with a distance of 6.33 meters.
“Finishing first [place] last Saturday was a big win for me,” Petraskie said. “I have not been performing quite as well as I want to be but being able to win my favorite event against a school like Cornell felt great. I really hope to get back in a good rhythm for the last two weeks.”
Senior runner Ciaran Fisher finished in fourth place out of 37 runners in the 800-meter dash with a. time of 2:01.31
Senior runner Kaleb Waiwada and sophomore runner Lenny Bolinsky also did well with a 12th and 14th place finish, respectively.
Freshman runner Jonathon White came in fourth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.56. White clocked a 53.52 in the 400-meter dash to finish in 10th place. White has proved himself to be one of the best mid-sprint runners in the Landmark Conference.
Freshman runner Jack Warehime finished in fifth place with a time of 1:31.15 in the 600-meter dash.
Senior thrower Andrew Failace, junior thrower Dylan Heisey, and freshman thrower Anthony Toledo all recorded personal bests in weight throw with distances of 13.65, 13.52, and 11.94 respectively.
Both the women and men’s track and field teams return to action at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 16 when they host the SU Invitational.
