Multiple program records were broken as the Susquehanna track and field teams competed against Division I and Division II schools at the Bison Open at Bucknell University on Saturday, Jan. 26.
Junior Chris Petraskie broke the school’s heptathlon record, while Alexa Pietrini shattered the 1,000-meter record.
Petraskie would finish fourth in his record-breaking heptathlon attempt with a score of 4,395, which included first place in the high jump and fifth place in both the 1,000-meter run and 60 meter dash.
In addition to setting a new school record, Petraskie also claimed honors as Landmark Conference Field Athlete of the Week for the second time during the 2018-19 campaign.
In the 800-meter run, senior Ciaran Fisher lead the way for the River Hawks with a fifth-place finish and a time of 2:00.96, narrowly beating two other opponents. Senior Kaleb Waiwada put in a time of 2:04.95 in the same event.
Sophomore Leonard Bolinski finished 10th overall in his 1,000-meter run.
The men’s 4×400-meter relay team of sophomore Tanner Haydt, freshman Jonathan White, Fisher, and freshman Jack Warehime finished eighth with a time of 3:38.79.
Sophomore Jason Card threw 12.68 meters in the shot-put event, which put him in 14th place. Jumior Mike Evans would throw 11.19 meters in his attempt.
Junior Alexa Pietrini finished fourth in her record-breaking 1,000 meter run with a time 3:14.40. Junior Erin Reese placed seventh overall in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:46.50.
The women’s 4×400-meter relay team of sophomore Kate Ross, Pietrini, sophomore Sara Arbogast, and sophomore Marissa Kleman finished their race in 4:24.52.
Ross, Arbogast, Kleman, and Reese would also finish fourth in the distance medley with a time of 13:00.73. Ross also put in a time of 1:05.18 in the 400-meter dash.
Arbogast also had luck in the triple jump, placing third overall with a 10.85 jump.
Senior Sarah Rinaldi finished fifth overall in the pentathlon with a total score of 2390. The River Hawks track and field program will prepare to compete again when they host the SU Challenge beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 in the fieldhouse of Garrett Sports Complex.
