Now that fall break has come and gone for the fall 2018 semester, I realized how much of a needed break that was for me.
The school year so far has been very exhausting, from the amount of schoolwork that had to be completed, to having to adjust from having just one roommate to having suitemates (whom I love!), my junior year has been very exhausting.
Coming home for fall break was such a reliever, just because I could take a weekend (and two days) to be with family, see my friends back home, and catch up on sleep. Within this break, I realized that I need to take more time out of my school year to rest.
I often do not go to bed early, I do not get the recommended number of hours a night, and I wake up feeling really tired, which does not lead to a good start of my day.
It makes it harder to focus in class, harder to study for exams, and harder to do better overall in my academics.
During fall break, I was able to focus on myself and get myself back in shape. I was even eating more at home simply because I had more time to do so.
My advice to Susquehanna students, or college students in general, is to take time during the academic year to get some sleep.
Do not spend your nights on Netflix, when you could be spending it sleeping or getting homework done so you can catch up on sleep later in the week.
You should eat more food at school rather than ordering out every night, or even ordering every weekend.
I mean, do not get me wrong, Aramark is not the best food option out there. But, eating Domino’s or Papa
John’s every night is not exactly helping your diet either.
Your diet has a lot to do with the amount of energy that you have throughout the day, so a variety of different foods, such as a burger and salad from Evert Dining Hall is a lot better than ordering a pepperoni pie and a side of cheesy bread from Domino’s to deliver to your room.
Most people spent their fall break traveling to different countries or going to see national monuments, but I spent fall break catching up on sleep, as well as organizing myself to make sure I keep myself well-rested this semester and so on.
I know that plans for a semester after a break are easier said than done as far as following through with those goals and aspirations.
However, I hope all students, particularly Susquehanna students, take the next seven weeks to eat right, refocus energy and get good sleep.
