Fifteen student cadets of the Bison Company Army Reserve Officer Training Corps from Susquehanna, Bucknell and Bloomsburg gathered in Garrett Sports Complex at 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 3 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Mogadishu.

The Battle took place in Mogadishu, Somalia Oct. 3-4, 1993, and was fought by the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Malaysian and Pakistani troops.

To honor the American soldiers that fought and died, the cadets went through a series of events that reflected the trials faced in the incident “Black Hawk Down.” The event also included music that was popular among soldiers during the time period.

Some of the outdoor exercises included a one-mile run, pushup shuffles, tuck-jumps, and bear crawls on the football field to symbolize the deployment of the special forces and the first day of combat, according to sophomore Cadet Daniel Sellers.

Inside, the cadets rotated between push-ups, pull-ups, air squats and another one-mile run to symbolize the fighting and foot exfiltration known as the “Mogadishu Mile.”
