As much as people joke that PenncState sports are a cult, you have to admire the universities’ ability to get people to show up.

There is an absolute power that comes with a packed stadium and rowdy crowd that not only gets the team pumped up but makes the event active for the attendants.

Unfortunately, Susquehanna does not have the same absolute power.

I understand that we are not even six percent the size of the Nittany Lions but our attendance at events across the board is lackluster.

From a small high school with low student turn out, I wanted to go to a college that had that power.

Seeing the passion and excitement students have for this university as a perspective student, I assumed that would carry into every aspect.

Sadly, this is an area that we lack.

With hard work being put in across the field, stage and entire campus it is disappointing when the grand stands are not filled, rows of seats in the theatre lay unreserved and events pull low numbers. Susquehanna does not have a shortage of things to do around campus; we have a shortage of students showing up to support the things that are.

I’m not sure if people are too busy studying, if they’re waiting for somebody else to ask if they want to go or what, but for a university that makes students live on campus for all four years: where is everyone?

I want to put the students and supporters of Susquehanna University to a challenge: go. Whether you plan it into your week or just ask the person across the hall if they want to come with, pick an event and go. Because if you go, others will too. If you know that your friend has a game on Saturday, go.

If you saw from a friend on Twitter that somebody did a spectacular job in the play, go. If you hear that your neighbor is leaving to go to the concert, go. You get the pattern.

We, as students and supporters, make up the community that is this school. If we show up, we can make it the environment that we strive for.

Throughout my four years here at Susquehanna, I have seen incredible leaders do and make exactly what they want through this university, that is not your problem, we just need to bring our bodies and get to that front row.

Attend whatever that may be throughout any asset of this campus, the hard work that our students put into things deserve an audience.

By simply going, we can create a thriving campus bursting with the attendance to prove the pride we have for our school.
