Susquehanna men’s and women’s track and field competed at the Bison Outdoor Classic Invitational on Saturday April 14 and Sunday April 15.
For the women’s team sophomore Erin Reese broke the Susquehanna University school record in the 10k by about 18 seconds.
Her time was 38:28.14 which placed her in fifth place at the invitational.
The old school record had been held since 2009 by Cait Pflaum at 38:45.93.
Other top finishers included the 4×400 relay team of sophomore Katherine Mayer, sophomore Alexa Pietrini, freshman Marissa Kleman and freshman Kate Ross. The team placed 11th with a time of 4:23.71.
Junior Mackenzie Apple finished with a time of 17.59 for the 100-meter hurdles which placed her at 32nd. Freshman Rachel Seiler placed 35th for the 400-meter hurdles at 1:16.77.
Sophomore Samantha Reed finished the 100-meter dash in 13.76 and senior Kailyn Reilly finished with a time of 4:58:72 in the 1500-meter race.
For the men’s team the top finisher taking 12th place was sophomore Robert Marks in the javelin throw. Marks threw a distance of 56.53 meters.
Sophomore Chris Petraskie earned two top 20 finishes for the weekend.
Petraskie took 16th in the high jump and 19th in the triple jump. For the high jump his clearing of the 1.96-meter height placed him as the top finisher for Division III. For the triple jump he placed with a distance of 13.15 meters.
Placing 17th, the men’s 4×400 relay team, including freshman Tanner Haydt, senior Gustin Reynolds, junior Kaleb Waiwada, and freshman Paul Jones, finished at a time of 3:34.44.
Jones and Haydt also placed as top scorers for the River Hawks in the 200-meter dash with Jones placing 38th and Haydt right behind at 39th.
Senior Joshua Brown placed 35th in the shot put at 11.95. In the 3k race, three of the River Hawks finished close with freshman Jake Menchey at 37th, sophomore Brandon Sorge at 39th and senior Kyle Skelton at 40th. Sophomore Dylan Heisey placed 41st in the discus.
“I did not do as great as I wanted, but I made great technical advances,” Heisey said.
The River Hawks will compete next at the third-annual Mountaineer Under the Lights meet hosted by Mansfield University on Saturday April 21.
The invitational will be held on the Robert T. Maxson Track in Mansfield, Pennsylvania.
