Zeta Tau Alpha added a new partner to its philanthropy by teaming up with Alex’s Lemonade Stand for a fundraiser on Thursda, April 19.
Zeta Tau Alpha, ZTA, announced its partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand. “This is the first time that we are ever doing this,” said Brynn Hainey, a senior Biology major who is ZTAs Service and Greek Chairman.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation was founded in 2005 by Alexandra “Alex” Scott. The Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for pediatric cancer, as well as educating the public, supporting families and aiding research.
“Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation raises money to help both families that are dealing with children who have cancer, to support their transportation and hotels, things like that, while their children are receiving treatment,” said Hainey. “They also with research, they send money to research and ZTA has teamed up with them this year to help raise funds here on campus.”
When asked what inspired her to partner with Alex’s Lemonade Stand, Hainey said “I was just playing around with some ideas, looking for something for us to do this year that wasn’t necessarily our philanthropy, but kind of connected to our philanthropy which is breast cancer education and awareness”.
ZTA’s main philanthropy partner is Bright Pink, an organization that works with breast and ovarian health. The sorority hosts many fundraising and awareness events during their ‘Think Pink’ week in October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Adding to their list of philanthropy, ZTA has decided to also fundraise for pediatric cancer this semesters. “To take that further we are still helping to raise money for cancer research, but for children instead of just for breast cancer,” Hainey said.
To include the Susquehanna community, ZTA will be holding a fundraiser in mid-April. “[On] April 19, we are going to be selling lemonade, both normal lemonade and frozen lemonade, to try to make some donations to send to the foundation,” she said.
The Fundraiser will took place on Thursday, April 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with lemonade stations on Degenstein Patio and Kurtz Lane.
