SAC applications open for committed students

Applications for students interested in joining the Student Activities Committee and helping to support future activities and events on campus are now available online.

Student Activities Committee, SAC, is currently taking applications for the position of director of public relations, as well as applications to become a general member of the organization. In previous years, SAC only required applications for executive members, but that has recently changed.

According to SAC’s vice president of operations, Jessica Pavey, the reason for the change was to narrow commitment and make sure that everyone who was a part of the organization was engaged. Despite the change, the applications for both executive members and general members are the same.

“On the application we just ask leadership questions, like what you think about the SU values and how SAC could promote those values,” said Pavey, who described the application as a questionnaire designed to get to know the applicant.

Applicants are also asked to provide their desired position and the reason for wanting to join SAC, as well as any and all SAC events they’re familiar with and what they’d do to improve them. Academic information such as the student’s GPA and their class year is also required.

SAC is dedicated to organizing events on campus, including concerts and guests, so applicants are also required to design a promotional event that could hypothetically take place on campus.

“Afterwards, there will be an interview process where applicants will get to know the SAC members,” said Pavey. “We’ll be identifying their strengths, and from there decide where they’ll fit.”

As members of SAC, students whose applications are accepted can expect to be working directly with the planning of events on campus. This includes concerts, guest speakers, comedians, films, coffeehouse acts and other events.

“We’re really looking to make the SAC a fun organization for students,” said Pavey. “Where we plan events but also have fun doing it.”

Applicants are asked to send their applications to SAC President Hanifah Jones by 8:00 pm on April 12. Students can contact Jones, as well as Vice President of Operations Jessica Pavey.
