Junior attack Kathrina DeMaio scored a hat trick on the day, but it was not enough as Susquehanna’s women’s lacrosse team fell 21-7 at home to conference-foe Moravian.
The Greyhounds kept up an offensive onslaught that the Susquehanna defense could not keep up with as sophomore goalie Libby Dex was peppered with 46 shots.
Moravian’s Liz Bill had a career day for the 7-1 Greyhounds as she finished the day with eight goals and four assists.
Susquehanna also struggled on draw controls on the day, being outdrawn by Moravian 22-6.
The Greyhounds jumped out to an early 9-2 advantage just 20 minutes into the game thanks to a hat trick from Jillian Picciuto and two goals
from Bill. Senior attack Caroline Rabiecki and Sophomore midfielder Mel Barracato had the two goals for Susquehanna during the scoring run.
Susquehanna would score one more time in the half on DeMaio’s first goal of the game, but two more goals from Bill would help propel Moravian to a 15-3 halftime lead.
Bill and company would keep their foot on the gas pedal when play resumed in the second half as Meagan McMullan would score her fourth goal of the game for Moravian and Bill would add her sixth less than
seven minutes in.
The River Hawks would respond with two goals on free position shots, but it was short lived as Bill and Allie Fisher would score two more goals for the Greyhounds.
DeMaio would complete her hat trick on an unassisted goal with 10:20 remaining in the game to make the score 19-6.
Moravian would add two more goals once again to close out the game for the 21-7 win.
With the loss, Susquehanna dropped to 2-5 on the season and still remain without a victory in conference play. Moravian meanwhile continued their strong start to the season by improving to 7-1 on the
season and 2-0 in the Landmark Conference.
The River Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 7 against and will continue conference play against Catholic.
Catholic currently sits at 6-4 on the season and 2-0 in conference play, including a 14-13 win against nationally ranked York (Pa.), who were
ranked number five in the country at the time.
The Cardinals main strength lies in their strong offensive play as they average 31.1 shots-per game and 14.20 goals-per game and are riding
a three-game win streak into the contest with Susquehanna.
Nicolette Crisalli will be the player to watch for the Cardinals. The senior attack leads the team with 36 goals in 12 games. Megan Ellis sits right behind her with 24 goals on the season. Holly Regan leads the team with 19 assists.
Game time for the River Hawks will be at 2 p.m. at Sassafrass Field in Selinsgrove after being rescheduled.
