The Susquehanna men’s lacrosse team came from behind to beat Landmark Conference opponent Moravian 8-6 on Saturday, March 30 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Susquehanna was led by junior attack Jack Donnelly who scored a hat trick and added one assist to finish the day with four points.
Junior goalie Dylan Abplanalp led the River Hawks game with ten saves.
Senior midfielder Alec Tzaneteas opened up scoring on the day just 1:51 into the contest with a goal while on a man-advantage. Junior midfielder Jake Smolokoff had the assist on the play.
Senior midfielder Andrew Porzio would then add another goal less than three minutes later to extend the River Hawks’ lead to two just 4:17 into the contest. Porzio also had a hat trick on the day.
Donnelly would add his first goal of the game with 6:56 to go in the first to push the lead to 3-0.
Susquehanna would end the first quarter with a 3-1 lead.
Moravian would then take over in the second quarter with five goals.
Austin Adams would add his second and third goals to complete his hat trick on the day and Moravian would go on a 6-0 scoring run to go into half time with a 6-3 lead.
After the quiet second quarter, Susquehanna would get back on the board thanks to an unassisted goal from freshman attack Colton Dick to narrow the Moravian lead to 6-4.
The Greyhounds would eventually give up that lead thanks to three-straight goals from the River Hawks while being a man up.
Porzio would score the first off of a Tzaneteas assist at the 4:37 mark to make it a one goal deficit for Susquehanna.
Donnelly would add his second goal of the game two minutes later with an assist from Dick to tie the game at six.
The River Hawks would complete the comeback attempt with Donnelly scoring the final goal for his hat trick to make the score 7-6.
Porzio would proceed to put the dagger into the Greyhounds with a goal with 4:17 left in regulation. Donnelly had the assist on the day for his final point in the contest.
With the win, Susquehanna improved to 7-4 on the season and 2-0 in Landmark Conference play, while Moravian dropped to 4-4 and 0-1 in the conference.
The River Hawks are back in action on Saturday, April 7 when they travel to the nation’s capital to face Catholic University. Game time for the River Hawks is at 1 p.m.
