Everyone remembers the summer before their freshman year. The nervousness, hesitation, excitement, and eagerness to start a new year. The beginning of the college chapter of your life can definitely be overwhelming. To help new students ease their nervous feelings and emotions, Summer Preview days are a fantastic way to integrate first-year students onto campus in the fall to begin the journeys of a lifetime. The Summer Preview Day is in June and during the day students do a blend of things introducing students to fellow students and professors, and get you ready to come back in August.
During Summer Preview Day, you’ll:
· Meet members of the faculty for advising sessions to discuss your fall academic program of study.
· Complete your foreign language placement testing.
· Confirm your financial aid arrangements.
· Get a first-hand look at student services and resources.
· Receive your copy of the first-year Common Reading.
· Take care of any necessary paperwork and transition needs.
· Get your student ID picture taken.
· Meet other new students, get to know the campus and have a fantastic time!
Even though it isn’t required to attend a Preview Day; the majority of incoming students who attended in the past found it helpful in their transition to college, including myself. I remember coming to campus and feeling nervous and anxious, not knowing what to expect. It was a great experience to see other SU students and to feel like I had a community to call home. There is no fee for Summer Preview Days. The day’s activities begin at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m.

Any questions from incoming first-year students are important to Susquehanna’s Community. Three popular questions asked from incoming/ potential first-year students are answered in detail below:
What’s cool/different about Susquehanna?
To begin, Susquehanna University is not your typical liberal arts college. Students will benefit from a liberal arts and sciences curriculum that is combined with real-world professional experiences. In fact, 90 percent of our graduates do internships, conduct research or have other professional opportunities before graduation.
In addition, 96.5% of students are working full time or enrolled in graduate or professional school within six months of graduation which proves Susquehanna’s dedication to helping students obtain jobs.
How will you help me to succeed?
Students will receive individualized attention in Susquehanna’s small classes and from our engaged faculty who are committed to student’s success. The Center for Academic Achievement staff will help students with current skills and habits throughout their college experience. Services include academic skills support, tutoring services and training workshops.
Are professors accessible outside of the classroom?
Susquehanna’s faculty are accessible both in and outside of the classroom while holding regular office hours, Susquehanna’s faculty regularly interacts with students in a variety of social settings and via email. Students will find professors to be accessible and encouraging, and they will challenge you to grow academically and personally.
Overall, the Summer Preview Day is a great opportunity for first-year students to get involved, and begin a journey where they will find, explore, and love themselves and achieve more than they ever thought possible.
