Susquehanna men’s and women’s track and field both earned some top finishes at the Bison Open indoor meet on January 26 and 27.
Sophomore Chris Petraskie earned Landmark Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week for the second time after placing fourth in the high jump and sixth overall in the triple jump for the weekend. Petraskie earned the award the first time in December and he continues to hold the top position for the Landmark Conference in both the high jump and the triple jump.
Clearing six feet and five and a half inches, Petraskie took the spot as the topfinishing Division III jumper and in the triple jump he was able to land 41’ 5 ¾”.
Also a top-finisher for the men’s team, junior middistance runner, Ciaran Fisher placed 10th in the 800. Senior Ryan Bertsch placed 11th in the weight throw at 13.99 and Sophomore Jason Card took 12th place in shot put at 13.08 meters.
Freshman sprinter Paul Jones took 22nd for the 400-meter dash and helped place 10th for the 4×400 relay with junior Justin Meyer, and seniors Gustin Reynolds and
Kyle Entin.
The women’s team also had strong finishes in multiple events at the meet.
Senior distance runner Hannah Stauffer took seventh with senior Kailyn Reilly right behind her placing eighth for the 800-meter run. Stauffer finished in 2:28.12 and Reilly finished in 2:28.13.
For the triple jump, freshman Sara Arbogast placed 11th with 10.43 meters and sophomore Maya Khanna placed 14th with 9.95 meters.
Sophomore Erin Reese continued her strong season with a 12th-placed finish at 18:53.13 in the 5K. Her finish placed five River Hawks in the top 15 for the weekend.
Freshman Kate Ross finished 29th in 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04:66.
The River Hawks compete again at Susquehanna’s own Garrett Center Field House on Saturday, February 3.
“The season is going well. There have been a lot of positives and a lot of personal records so far. There will still be room for improvement but I think a lot of athletes will be at champs this year,” junior Mark Weaver said.
Both the men’s and women’s team were predicted to finish third in the Landmark Conference preseason poll behind Moravian and Elizabethtown.
