“Flagship,” a Susquehanna publication focused on GO experiences, is taking submissions of prose, poetry and photography for its next issue until Feb. 23.
Students at Susquehanna are required to take GO trips to expand on their global understanding, through which many experience new and intriguing phenomena to later take home with them. They step out of their comfort zones, take risks and have eye-opening experiences. “Flagship” allows for students to share those experiences with an audience and brings their stories to life to showcase what it truly means to go abroad.
Senior Gretchen Hintze, the head editor of “Flagship,” said, “I really like that ‘Flagship’ is accessible to anyone of any major of any study abroad destination and is an opportunity for them to share their cross-cultural experiences. I think it is important for students to have a space to exercise creativity and reflect upon their time away from Susquehanna in a way that is most beneficial to them personally.”
“I initially heard about ‘Flagship’ during my sophomore year, when the editor at the time, Alexis Gargin, invited me to be her associate editor,” Hintze said. “I was thrilled by the offer and ac-cepted after learning more about the publication. Since then, I’ve worked hard to try and let other people know what ‘Flagship’ is all about and encourage them to support in any way they can, whether it be reading, attending the launch, joining the staff or simply spreading the word.”
In order to submit, students must email their submissions to suflagship@gmail.com with their name and genre in the title. Selfies will not be accepted and photo submissions should be as a .jpeg file.
This year’s issue of “Flagship” is set to launch on April 30 and students published will be asked to read from their pieces. Previous issues of “Flagship” are available at https://flagshipsu.com.
Hintze and the rest of the staff have high expectations for the future of the magazine.
“[I] would love to see ‘Flagship’ grow even more in the future,” Hintze said. “I would love to see many more students submitting from across different departments to offer as many diverse perspectives and experiences as possible.”
