Turnovers plague SU in loss to Gettysburg

Susquehanna’s football fell to a 29-21 road loss to Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon.

Four interceptions and one lost fumble allowed Gettysburg to complete the comeback after being down 21-7 in the game.

Gettysburg running back Ryan Thompson rushed for a one-yard touchdown followed by a successful kick permitting Gettysburg to a 7-0 lead over Susquehanna.

With about nine minutes on the clock Susquehanna took over the remaining quarter dominating Gettysburg 21- 7. Senior quarterback Nick Crusco rushed for a three- yard touchdown assisted by a successful kick making the score 7-7.

Susquehanna’s defense held Gettysburg’s offense to three plays before Susquehanna’s offense took the field. Crusco then managed to find senior wide receiver Diamante Holloway three times on the drive, including a three-yard touchdown pass to give the River Hawks a 14-7 lead.

Susquehanna’s defense yet again held Gettysburg’s offense to three plays. With 46 seconds left on the clock Susquehanna’s offense took the field at Gettysburg’s 43-yard line. Nick Crusco’s pass was completed to sophomore wide receiver Mikah Christian for a 43-yard line touchdown assisted by a successful kick making the score 21-7 Susquehanna.

As the second quarter went underway, Gettysburg’s kicker Justin Geisel scored a successful field goal making the score 21- 10 Susquehanna.

Susquehanna’s defense still continued to hold Gettysburg’s offense to a three-point conversion. Gettysburg’s Justin Geisel score another successful field goal making the score 21- 13 Susquehanna.

The third quarter was slow for both Susquehanna and Gettysburg. Gettysburg however, scored yet another successful field goal making the score 21-16 Susquehanna.

With 11:29 seconds on the clock into the fourth quarter, Gettysburg’s offense scored a touchdown putting Gettysburg 22-21 over Susquehanna.

With about 5:48 seconds on the clock Nick Crusco completed a pass to Diamente Holloway for six yards on Susquehanna’s 35. However, Gettysburg’s Glenn Benson forced a fumble and the ball was recovered by Gettysburg’s Danial Searle.

Gettysburg then rushed for a two-yard touchdown assisted by a successful kick making the score 29-21 Gettysburg.

Nick Crusco finished the game 19-35 for 248 yards and two TDs. Mikah Christian finished the game leading Susquehanna’s recievers with 134 yards on six catches. Cameron Ott finished for 107 rushing yards on 24 carries.

Susquehanna is now 5-3 (3-5) on the season, while Gettysburg improved to 3-5 on the year.

The River Hawks return to action on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. when they host conference- foe McDaniel, who currently sit at 3-5 on the season.
