The Susquehanna volleyball team split a pair of games during a Landmark Conference tri-match on Oct. 28 in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.

On Saturday afternoon, the River Hawks were able to win the first game of the day against Scranton by a 3-1 score.

Sophomore Hannah Lyons led all players on the day with 16 kills while Kristin Kirwan led Scranton with 12 kills.

Senior Morgan Lowe led the River Hawks with five blocks and sophomore Caroline Beohm had an impressive 29 digs while senior Julie Kreutzer had 41 assists during the match.

Susquehanna more than doubled Scranton’s hitting percentage with a .246 compared to the Royal’s .112.

The River Hawks also had nine aces on the day, which tripled the Royals total of three. Susquehanna also averaged three more blocks

In the first set, the River Hawks cruzed to a dominant 25-14 victory to go up 1-0.

In the second set, Susquehanna continued their strong performance on the day by taking the set 25-19 and looked as if they were going to take the match 3-0.

The Royals were able to rebound in the third set however as they managed to take the set 25-18 to keep their win hopes alive.

Susquehanna would go on to close out the game in the next set by miroring the score from last set 25-18.

The River Hawks then went on to play rival Juniata in the final match of the regular season against the Landmark Conference powerhouse.

Juniata proved why they have won the conference every year since its creation in 2007 as they cruzed to a 3-0 win.

Lyons once again led Susquehanna players in kills on the day with 11. Kreutzer also

led all Susquehanna players in assists with 17, while freshman Lizzie Herestofa led the team in digs with nine while Beohm was right behind her with eight. For Juniata, Marybeth Weihbrect led the team with nine kills while Victoria Taylor and Morgan Edwards both had eight kills on the day.

Juniata did show signs of weakness during the tri-match however as they suffered their first Landmark Conference loss in program history.

Before the 3-2 loss to Scranton they had been a perfect 65-0 in conference play. On top of that, their last loss in a regular season came way back in 1981 when the Eagles lost to Gettysburg 2-1.

The Eagles will host the Landmark Conference title on Saturday, Nov. 4 when they play Scranton. The Royals have a good chance to become the first team not named Juniata to win the Landmark Conference Championship.
