Throughout the week of Oct. 9 to Oct. 13, Habitat For Humanity hosted its annual midterm pancakes fundraiser. Each semester during midterms week, the club hosts this fundraiser.

The Habitat for Humanity club makes plain and chocolate chip pancakes in the basement of the Degenstein campus center. The pancakes were sold in twos and all the proceeds go to benefit Habitat For Humanity.

Junior Megan Zagoric said: “Midterm pancakes is a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity that has been going on since before I came to Susquehanna (I am a junior). Each semester during midterms week we sell plain and chocolate chip pancakes in lower [Degenstien Campus Center] late at night when students are busy studying and have less dining options to refuel their bodies. They are always a big hit. All of the proceeds go to Habitat.”

The event has a large recognition from previous years.

Freshman Emma Mencke said: “There were many people who were like, ‘Oh hey, it’s midterm pancakes’ because they knew about it from previous years or days. Sarah and I are freshman but it was interesting to see that even our club was getting recognized by a ton of the student body. Super fun and it was all for a good cause.”

Habitat for Humanity is a nationwide organization that builds houses for those who have lost their homes to natural disasters. It is not for profit and its volunteers include celebrities and common men and women.

Service is the organizations main goal and mission. A quote from Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter from their website emphasizes the importance of service to others: “Investments in helping others always pay rich dividends.”

Recently, Habitat for Humanity has began work to aid the victims of Hurricane Harvey. The organization encourages Americans to donate their time towards the cause, and their website offers a way to make donations.

In addition to aid those in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, the aid will also help the residents of Puerto Rico in the aftermath of several hurricanes and tropical storms. As per the Habitat for Humanity website, they have site builds all over the United States, Canada, Asia, Europe, Middle East, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa.

Habitat for Humanity also allows donations of goods and services, as they take car doantions. They support donations through the workspace, corporate donations and office supplies and even a way to donate through your stocks.
