On Oct. 3, the Gamma Omicron chapter of Alpha Delta Pi at Susquehanna hosted their annual “Beauty and the Greek” event in Weber Chapel.
The fundraiser event, styled as a mock theatrical performance or as a mixture of “America’s Got Talent” and the Golden Globes, showcased members of various sororities and fraternities that are paired up with each other to perform various acts and tasks.
Tickets to the event were priced at five dollars, and the money collected is then donated to the Danville Ronald McDonald house, Alpha Delta Pi’s philanthropy.
The event also has several silent auctions featuring goods from various local businesses. During the event there was even a chance to donate money and participate in a 50-50 raffle.
Senior and Tau Kappa Epsilon member Robby Goodfellow stated: “I think that this is a fun way to raise money for a good cause and it’s a great way to bond with members of other organizations”.
The Ronald McDonald House, as per their website, states that their main goal is, “Keeping families with sick children together and near the care and resources they need.”
Something new that the organization is doing is focusing their grants in a different way.
“Beginning in 2017 and throughout 2020, the RMHC Global Grants Program will focus on oral health needs of children ages 0 to 6 in the U.S., and on reducing maternal and child mortality in the first six months of life in Africa, South Asia and Latin America,” their website states as a new goal and in the past year that they have helped lessen the burden for more than 5.5 million families in 2016.
Harmonic Combustion performed at the beginning of the event for the night. Harmonic Combustion, or HarmCo., is an a cappella group on SU’s campus that performs for various events throughout the year.
They recently performed at Charlie’s in September with last year’s set list while preparing this year’s.
This year’s “Beauty and the Greek” pageant featured acts with appearances from Star Wars characters and YouTube sensational videos, to name a few.
Last years “Beauty and the Greek” event raised over $1,000 for charity, and Alpha Delta Pi won’t know exactly how much they raised this year until Sunday evening.
Alpha Delta Pi Vice President Jackie Bauer did speak about the event. She said: “It’s an amazing opportunity to raise money and help the Ronald McDonald House and the various families. We often forget how far they are coming from so the smallest thing can make a really hard day a little better”.
The winners of the ‘Beauty and the Greek’ fundraiser event were Sigma Alpha Iota’s Sarah Sandberg and Phi Beta Sigma’s Rakee Cromwell with their Star Wars style skit.
The runners up of ‘Beauty and the Greek’ were Marquise Richards of Phi Mu Delta and Eyanna Walker of Sigma Gamma Rho.
