The Susquehanna women’s volleyball team went south to compete in the UMHB Tournament in Belton, Texas over the weekend where the River Hawks would finish 2-2.

Susquehanna played two games on Friday. The first game was a commanding 3-0 win for against Mass.-Boston, and the second was a 3-1 loss to tournament host Mary Harden-Baylor.

In game one, the River Hawks managed to pull out a 28-26 win after two straight attack errors by Mass.-Boston. Sophomore middle hitter Veronica Kirchner made a block on both plays for the River Hawks.

The second and third sets were much more one-sided as Susquehanna took the second set 25-13, and the third set 25-19.

Senior outside hitter Morgan Lowe led the River Hawks in both kills with 11 and digs with 10 while Kirchner led the team in blocks with four.

In the later match, Susquehanna managed to take a close first set 25-23, but would end up dropping the next three sets 25-13, 25-18, and 25-15 against Mary Harden-Baylor.

Sophomore hitter Hannah Lyons led the River Hawks in kills with nine while Lowe led the team in digs with nine. Haleigh Evans led Mary Harden-Baylor with an impressive 22 digs.

On day two , the River Hawks once again finished 1-1 on the day, but capped the weekend off with a strong 3-2 win over Hardin-Simmons.

In game one of the day, and third of the tournament, Susquehanna lost to Texas-Tyler 3-0.

The sets were close between the two teams (26-24, 27-25, and 25-23). Both teams had 62 digs and Texas-Tyler had one more block than Susquehanna (5-4).

Lowe led the team in kills with 10 and blocks with four, while defensive specialists soph- omore Kasey Bost and freshman Lizzie Herestofa led the team in digs with 14 each.

In game two against Hardin-Simmons, the River Hawks managed to pull out a win in a five-set slugfest.

Susquehanna would win the first set 26-24, but would drop the next two to Hardin-Simmons 25-22 and 26-24. The team would rally to win the fourth set 25-21 to force a game-deciding fifth set.

Hardin-Simmons jumped out to an 8-4 lead, but Susquehanna eventually took the lead 13-12 thanks to efforts from Lyons and sophomore Caroline Beohm.

Lyons then finished the game with a strong kill through a Hardin-Simmons block attempt to give Susquehanna the fifth set and the victory.

Lowe led the team in kills in the game with 15, and Beohm led the team in digs with 18. Lyons also had 10 blocks in the game, which was two more than the entire Hardin-Simmons team.
